About Gilchrist & The Association
Gilchrist, located alongside highway 97 in northern Klamath County on the western slope of the Gilchrist State Forest, is an Oregon Planned Community. Established in 1938, Gilchrist was the last privately owned timber town in Oregon. Gilchrist was developed with a K-12 school situated in the middle of the development. The Gilchrist Mall hosts a post office, grocery store, bank, a county library and various small shopping stores. In 1996 the homes were sold to individual owners and The Gilchrist Owners Association was born.
The Association is a non-profit corporation owned by its members and directed by an elected Board of Directors comprised of members. The Board is responsible for maintaining the public road system, regulating land use as well as building and appearance standards.
Central Oregon abounds with summer and winter recreational opportunities. Whether it is skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, fishing, hunting, geo caching or snowmobiling, Gilchrist is near many recreation locations.
